When should your child see a pediatrician?

  • A high temperature
  • Coughs, colds and earache
  • Diarrhoea or vomiting
  • Rashes and skin irritation
  • Poor feeding or loss of appetite
  • Checking weight, height and growth
  • Recurrent wheezing
  • Questions about feeding and sleep

How can you prepare for your child’s visit?

Before the appointment, note when the symptoms started, the highest temperature you measured, and roughly how often your child has been feeding, drinking and passing urine. These small details help the pediatrician judge how unwell your child is, especially a baby who can’t tell you how they feel.

Bring your child’s vaccination card and the names of any medicines you have given recently. If a vaccine dose is due, ask our team when booking whether vaccinations are available at the polyclinic. A favourite toy can help a young child feel settled.

When should you take your child to emergency straight away?

Trust your instincts as a parent. If your child doesn’t seem like themselves, don’t wait for a clinic slot. For any of the signs below, call the Saudi Red Crescent on 997 or go straight to the nearest hospital emergency department:

  • Any fever in a baby under 3 months old
  • Difficulty breathing or bluish lips
  • A fit (seizure), or being very drowsy and hard to wake
  • Signs of dehydration, such as very few wet nappies or a dry mouth
  • A rash that doesn’t fade when you press a glass against it

Common questions

Are vaccinations given at the pediatric clinic?

Please ask our team on 920020166 or WhatsApp before you come, so they can confirm what is available. Bring your child’s vaccination card to every visit so the doctor can check which doses have been given and which are due.

My child has a high temperature at night. What should I do?

Fever is common in children and is often caused by a minor viral infection. What matters most is how your child seems overall. If your baby is under 3 months, or your child is drowsy, struggling to breathe or refusing to drink, seek urgent care straight away at the nearest hospital emergency department.

Can I bring my child for a check-up when they aren’t sick?

Yes. Check-ups are worthwhile even when your child is well. The doctor measures weight and height, compares them with what is expected for your child’s age, and answers your questions about feeding, sleep and development.
