What is a men’s health or fertility consultation like?
Talking about sexual health or difficulty conceiving is not easy for many men. The doctor treats these concerns like any other health problem, asking about your symptoms and how long they have lasted, long-term conditions such as diabetes and blood pressure, your medicines, and habits like smoking.
When a couple is having trouble conceiving, both partners are usually assessed, since the cause can lie with either or both. For the man, this commonly starts with a semen analysis and an examination. Ask our team whether the test can be done at the on-site laboratory and how to prepare.
Erection problems are sometimes an early sign of diabetes or of heart and blood vessel disease. That’s why they are worth raising with a doctor rather than ignoring: checking them matters for your general health, not only your relationship. The good news is that many causes can be treated.
When do you need emergency care instead?
Some urinary and testicular symptoms need treatment within hours, so don’t let embarrassment hold you back. Go straight to the nearest hospital emergency department, or call the Saudi Red Crescent on 997, if you have:
- Sudden, severe pain in a testicle
- Being unable to pass urine, with a full, painful lower belly
- Severe kidney pain with fever or persistent vomiting
- Heavy bleeding or clots in the urine
- A painful erection lasting more than 4 hours
Common questions
Can a semen analysis be done at the polyclinic?
Please ask our team on 920020166 or WhatsApp whether the test is available at the on-site laboratory. Men are usually asked to avoid ejaculation for a few days beforehand, so check the exact instructions when you book.
Is blood in the urine serious?
Blood in the urine should always be checked by a doctor, even if it appeared only once and without pain. The cause may be simple, such as an infection or a stone, but examination is needed to rule out other causes, especially in smokers and people over 40.
Do kidney stones always need a procedure?
No. Many small stones pass on their own over time. The doctor decides whether treatment is needed based on the stone’s size and position and your symptoms, and requests suitable tests and imaging. If you do need a procedure, ask our team what is available at the polyclinic.
